Home Lighting – with planning, You can get more light into your bathroom.

January 25, 2012

Generally, bathrooms are the smallest rooms in the house.  This makes it a challenge to bring in more light.  You don’t want to sacrifice privacy but you will want enough light to brighten the room.

If possible, create your plan before your house is built if you a working on a new home.  If the bathroom is located on the south side of the house, it will get the most daylight.  From sunup to sundown, the light will reach your room.

Try to plan for larger windows.  The design of the room will determine if this is possible.  If the exterior walls don’t have the fixtures located on them, you can possibly have a larger area available for windows.  While you will pay more for larger windows in the beginning, you will save over time by using less electricity for lighting the area.

You can use overhead windows such as skylights to brighten the area without losing the privacy you desire.  If you can locate windows at opposite angles, you will have cross lighting.  Floor to ceiling windows or doors give so much daylight.  If you use glass blocks or acrylic blocks, you won’t loose the privacy you desire. Modern Contemporary White Interior Design

January 5, 2012

There’s plenty to love about using white for interior design. White isn’t simply an absence of color. White creates an image of elegance, brightness and expansiveness. It also symbolizes purity, goodness and lightness of being. White is definitely far from boring, but it does involve a number of interior design techniques in order to fuse in a modern contemporary look. Here are some pointers on how to use white as part of your home décor without emitting a sterile hospital-like vibe.

First of all, although we seem to always think of white as one particular shade, the truth is that choosing the right shade of white is not so, well, black, and white. There are actually many different tones of white and the colors that would match these white tones would be remarkably different. For instance, blue-tinted white will look jarring against a red sofa. To incorporate warmth in your interior design, opt for whites that have hints of yellow, like ivory, beige and cream. Cool hues look best with brighter whites.

White is also very versatile. Depending on how you accessorize the rest of your room, you can create a minimalist, romantic, classic or even dramatic feel. For example, black and white photographs would add a touch of timeless romanticism to the space. Bring in a red bowl and watch how it attracts attention and changes the mood of the entire interior design. (more…)
