Leather – How do I know if it is ‘Genuine Leather’?

August 25, 2011

Tanning animal skins and hides creates leather.  Leather comes from skins when smaller animals are used.  The skin or hide is cleaned and tanned.  So, if this is the case, why would you look for products categorized ‘Genuine leather’?  This is an advertising idea that indicates the item is not made of imitation leather.  The choice is genuine or imitation.

Imitation leather has properties similar to leather.  The surface is embossed, colored and glossed to create this effect.  The better qualities of imitation leather are created using textile substrate.  If poor quality substrate is used, it can still be labeled “Genuine leather”.  Some leather has been given a plastic lacquer or foil coating. Afternoon Nap

August 11, 2011

Nap time can be a delicious retreat from an overwhelming day. We all know little kids need naps and that sometimes moms will put the kids down for a nap just to grab some private time. That’s why napmats are so handy – your little one can nap on the fly with a handy and portable nap mat; most pre-schools and daycare centers put a nap mat on the basic checklist of required items. So how come they don’t make napmats for grown-ups?

They probably do – it’s called a sofa or the easy chair. Kidding aside, short naps have been proven to improve productivity at work and at home. If you can get past the implied guilty pleasure of sneaking a nap and make it a regular part of your daily routine you’ll be amazed at the improvements in your health and well-being.

To integrate a nap regimen into your daily routine, begin by setting aside a napping location. This can be a comfortable chair, the couch, a daybed or perhaps a chaise in a spare room. Napping differs from getting into bed; you will most likely remain fully clothed and rest atop a made bed if you nap on a bed at all. Regardless of your napping location a good pillow can go a long way to promote comfortable relaxation and rest. Something like a feather and down jumbo pillow can effectively screen out both noise and light, or you may prefer something as simple as a bead-filled pillow to provide some neck support.
